Are you:
1. A newly qualified doctor within the first 3 years post qualification
2. A retainer, a returner or a locum
3. Retired from full time practice or are planning to retire within the next 2-3 years (this will group will include former SAGE members)
If you fall into one of the above categories and would like to have access to a peer support group of like minded colleagues who will meet on a regular basis to cover a variety of clinical and non-clinical issues, then please contact me:

Via email on sarahhands@fsmail.net

Or via the Department of General Practice, RUH, Bath BA1 3NG
Or telephone 01225824894; mobile 07880507408

The meetings will normally be held Monday evenings, at the Department of General Practice, Bath Royal United Hospital. They have been set up on behalf of Severn Deanery and are therefore free of charge so that if you wish to attend, membership of BGPERT is not mandatory.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
From November 2008 the two groups – sessional doctors (retainers, returners and locums) and newly qualified doctors (those within 3 years of qualifying as a GP) will be combined and a meeting held monthly instead of on alternate months.

It is likely that the educational requirements of both groups will be similar and as the numbers overall are at the moment quite low this will be a better use of everyone’s time. It will be possible to review requirements if and when things change and reconsider at a later date.

• The dates of meetings for this combined group are therefore as follows:
• Monday 17th November 2008
• Tuesday 16th December 2008
• Monday 19th January 2009
• Monday 23rd February 2009
• Monday 23rd March 2009
• Monday 20th April 2009
• Monday 18th May 2009

The meetings will continue to be held at Bath postgraduate centre at 7.00pm for 7.30pm etc. etc.

The next meeting on Monday 17th November will be on requirements for appraisal. You are also encouraged to bring a peer reviewed journal article for possible discussion.

NB Pre-retirement doctors will continue to hold separate meetings and the dates for their meetings are as follows:

• Monday 8th December 2008 (in Bradford on Avon)
• Monday 2nd March 2009
• Monday 1st June 2009

I would be pleased to hear your ideas on the educational topics you would like to be included. Part of the initial meetings for each group can be used to help decide on the content for future meetings.

Kind regards

Dr Sarah Hands
GP Educator and Educational Advisor to Severn Deanery
